Stress-free dog ear cleaning – gentle and effective

Ears are one of the most sensitive parts of a dog's body. When they are clean and healthy, our furry friend enjoys every stroke behind the ear. But when it gets itchy, red or smells bad, it can quickly put a damper on their mood – and cause us to worry. That's why gentle and regular ear care is key to their well-being.

Why is ear hygiene so important?

A dog's ears are like a natural "sound antenna" - sensitive, warm and often moist. These are conditions in which bacteria and yeast can quickly grow if hygiene is poor, leading to inflammation (otitis externa). (1*)

Signs of problems: scratching, odor, redness

If your dog is frequently scratching their ears, shaking their head, has an unpleasant odor coming from the ear, or notices redness and dark discharge, these may be signs of inflammation. In such cases, a veterinarian should be consulted, as the discomfort can progress rapidly. (2*)

Breeds that are more prone to inflammation

Breeds with floppy ears (e.g. Cocker Spaniels, Beagles, Basset Hounds) and those with narrow ear canals or thick fur around the ears (e.g. Poodles, Schnauzers) are more likely to have problems. In these dogs, moisture and heat remain longer, creating ideal conditions for the growth of microorganisms. (3*)

Step by step: how to clean a dog's ears

Proper preparation and care

At BOO Care , we believe that it is crucial that your dog feels safe and relaxed when being groomed. That's why:

  1. Choose a quiet space without distracting sounds.
  2. First, pet the dog and show him the cleaning fluid so he can smell it.
  3. Soak a cotton pad with the product and clean the ear area.
  4. Massage the ear at the root for 20–30 seconds to allow the liquid to dissolve the impurities.
  5. We recommend weekly use of the product to prevent inflammation and
    accumulation of earwax.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Never use cotton swabs deep inside the ear – they can damage the ear canal and push dirt even deeper. (4*)
  • Don't clean too often - for healthy dogs, 1 to 2 times a month is usually sufficient, for those who are more prone to inflammation, as needed.
  • Do not use aggressive disinfectants or alcohol – they can irritate the sensitive skin in the ear.

Natural products for sensitive ears

Research confirms that natural botanicals like aloe vera, calendula, and chamomile can help soothe sensitive skin and reduce inflammation. (5*) (6*) Products free of alcohol, artificial colors, and fragrances are especially important for dogs with sensitive skin in their ears.
